Sydney Blocked Drains Plumber Fast and Efficient Plumbing

tab02 img01 - Blocked Drains Sydney

Drains can block slowly over time, or can block very quickly depending on the cause. Sometimes they block so slowly over months and years that you don’t even realise that it’s happening – until it finally completely blocks and becomes an emergency. We are the professionals in clearing your blocked drains.

Emergency After Hours

Some of the characteristics of a blocked drain can include water leaking around the mouth of a pipe or drain. If the toilet level rises when you flush the toilet or drain the bathtub, it’s worth employing our services. Items stuck in the pipes beneath your sink make it hard for the system to drain correctly.

A “blocked drain” is something that most of us have experienced at some point, though that doesn’t make it any less frustrating. While large items can cause a blockage immediately, it’s more common that your drains are gradually becoming clogged.

When sediment, residual grease or debris accumulates over months and months, you may only notice the “drain is blocked” after the symptoms present themselves. Water leaks around the mouth of a drain, rising water levels in a toilet bowl, and of course an inability to get rid of water all point towards blocked drains.

Ignoring this early evidence is dangerous, as a complete blockage will turn into a plumbing emergency. Thankfully, our specialist blocked drains plumbers can swiftly perform repairs, so that you don’t have to worry about any stagnant water or foul odours.

How do Drains become blocked?

Blocked drains can happen for any number of reasons. The most common causes are:

  1. Sediment Buildup: Various particles can accumulate in your piping, diminishing the system’s drainage ability. Hair and cleaning products can cause issues for the shower drain, whilst grease and food can quickly clog up the kitchen sink. It’s important to periodically flush your system to avoid such buildup.
  2. Fat, Oil and Grease (FOG): Even though you’re able to pour oils down the drain, they don’t travel as water does. When fat, oil and grease cools down, it will solidify and prevent water from draining. Unfortunately, these substances can also give off bad smells when left untreated.
  3. Flushed Items: Accidentally dropping items down a drain, or attempting to flush non-degradable items down toilets will clog your plumbing system. In these instances, items may need to be physically removed.

In less serious cases, we will only need to access under-sink pipes or traps. However, it’s not always obvious what the precise cause of a drain blockage is. Our expert plumbers can isolate a blocked drain by using specialist equipment, such a pipe inspection camera, along with their years of hands-on experience.

How to clear blocked Drains

If you’re up to the task, there’s a few options for fixing a blocked drain. Firstly, you can try using a plunger, which works by creating a vacuum that pulls up any trapped debris. Secondly, a wire can be bent to shape and fed down the drain to physically dislodge a blockage.

Pouring baking soda and vinegar down your drain will create carbon dioxide, which will carbonate the water and encourage residual fat, oil or grease (FOG) to shift. Alternatively, dish soap and boiling water may be all you need to clear out blocked drains.

Who is responsible for my blocked drains?

Each service is provided in accordance with the contract, therefore, first of all, you need to carefully read the contract concluded by consumers for the provision of home maintenance services. Failure to ensure the normal functioning of residential buildings by a service provider under an agreement on the provision of services for the maintenance of buildings and structures and adjacent territories is unlawful.

What to do if your drains are blocked?

For any type of clogging, including the kitchen sink, there are only a few ways to eliminate:

Chemical. Available in liquid, gel and powder formulations. They are quite effective, but designed for prevention. They will help cope with a fairly fresh blockage. When pouring liquid and gel products, be sure to wear gloves. The disadvantages of such methods include low efficiency with “deaf” and obsolete blockages. When the water in the sink stands and does not go at all, chemistry alone is not enough.

Hydromechanical method. These are classic plungers and other devices based on the principle of creating a hydraulic shock and pressure fluctuations at the site of clogging, which work well with chemicals. If you fill the reagent in the problem site for a while, then pump it with a plunger, most of the blockages can be eliminated.

How do I know if my outside drain is blocked?

Deposits form inside sewer pipes appear over time. The intensity of their formation and nature depend on the properties and mode of movement of effluents. Layering on the walls reduces the free section of the pipe, the throughput drops and, as a result, the sewerage system is clogged. In addition to the fact that the sediment interferes with the discharge of wastewater, sulfate-reducing bacteria actively multiply there, and the products of their vital activity destroy the pipes.

The most effective way to avoid blockages is to install filter plugs on the drain holes and timely carry out preventive flushing. If the sewer is still clogged, what to do depends on the characteristics of the blockage. Water standing in only one of the plumbing fixtures transparently hints at a local blockage. If water is everywhere, it is possible that the problem lies in the main pipe.

Can a plumber fix blocked drains?

Eliminating sewer blockages in severe cases is carried out by the same methods, but using professional equipment, special equipment and industrial cleaning agents. A specialist attaches a handle to one end of the cable, and a drill-shaped tip or brush is attached to the other. The cable is a professional tool and requires some application skills. It goes through the corners, but you have to be careful not to overdo it – there is a risk of blowing the pipe if you have a plastic system. For such operations it’s beneficial to call a plumber.

How do you unblock a sewer drain outside?

Today hydrodynamic cleaning is available among plumbing services. There is a special tool – an installation that runs on gasoline or electricity. Its function is based on the ability to pressurize the hose. First, the hose is connected to the sewer pipe. This hosepipe is affixed to the compressor at the other end. The compressor supplies water under high pressure (about 150 atmospheres) to the hose. Then you need a special punching nozzle that is attached to the end of the hose. Then the plumber makes some holes in the nozzle. Breaking out of them, the jets twist into spirals and envelop the walls of the pipe. With these jets, the nozzle not only cleans the walls of the pipes, but also repels them, and begins to move forward. Considering how much pressure is created in the pipe, any type of blockage can be eliminated. Finally, the pipes get a new life, because their walls are perfectly eliminated from blockages.
